Traditional Massage at its Finest

Known as a “classic massage” in many countries, the Swedish massage is the best known and most widely practiced type of massage therapy. There are a variety of techniques used in Swedish massage including circular pressure applied by the hands and palms, firm kneading, light tapping, and more.

Think of a sports massage as the more focused sibling of a deep tissue massage. The two massages are similar – firm pressure, focusing on muscles and connective tissue deep within the body. But with a sports massage, your therapist may incorporate stretching and the session may be targeted to a specific area of the body.

Deep Tissue Massage

This type of massage can relieve pain and reduce muscle stiffness. Deep tissue massages are highly therapeutic.

Slow, Firm Massage for Relieving Stiffness

Deep tissue massage therapy is similar to Swedish massage but with a deep tissue massage, your therapist applies slow, firm pressure to release muscle tension. The focus is on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons, and fascia (the protective layer surrounding muscles, bones and joints).

Reduced Aches and Pains, Increased Motion

A deep tissue massage may improve circulation, reduce minor aches and pain, increase range of motion, and ease inflammation. According to a study in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, deep tissue massage helped to lower blood pressure after just one session. Targeted Massage for Trouble Areas

You know those weird knots or cricks that just show up out of nowhere in your neck or shoulders or back? There’s a name for them – trigger points. A trigger point is a tight area within your muscle tissue that causes pain in other parts of your body as well. They might show up as sharp, intense spasms, or as a dull generalized ache. Either way, they’re a real pain.

Relieve Constricted Muscles

Your MYO Massage therapist will work with you to locate the source of discomfort. They may start you on some deep breathing, while using alternating cycles of pressure and release to ease those constricted muscles. You may experience a significant decrease in minor aches and pain after just one Trigger Point Therapy session – but ongoing sessions could help you manage them even better.
